Week 3 - Rubble, Rubble, Toil and Trouble. 14 August 2023

With two 6-ton skips of garden trimmings (excluding 4 trees that we have kept for fire wood for the next two years) and six 6-ton skips of building rubble (excluding the bricks which we have re-used), we are trying our best to leave the smallest possible footprint on the planet.  All original fixtures and fittings from the house have been donated to a local charity that reuses or repurposes each piece for low cost housing projects.  Windows and doors will go next!  

At the end of week three, we are starting to see the house come to life!  We see the new floor which looks like a skating rink, extra sunlight in each room from more windows and doors than anyone could imagine, and new bathrooms that we are actually getting excited about.  The kitchen and the scullery are also coming to life.  Enjoy week 3's pics and a few videos!

Week 2 - Wrecking Balls and Grenades! 7 August 2023

I have personally never used a wrecking ball, or a grenade for that matter, but I am pretty sure my title for Week 2 is quite accurate.  So much rubble from removing a few walls, blowing out some holes in the exterior for more windows and doors, lifting up the tiles and floors to rebuild them, and removing some other extraneous pieces from the 1970's.  My anxiety level hit its max while walking through a Week 2 version of our new abode.  "Keep remember the vision and the drawings"...I have to keep telling myself.  Let's hope Week 3 will start bringing it all together.

Week 8 - Follow the Yellow Brick Road - 18 September 2023

Not quite the Emerald City, but the Emerald Bathroom is starting to get us excited.  I tried to convince Nicci that the floor should be golden colored bricks, but I don't think that fits with her vision.  The kitchen is taking shape with the cabinetry being built, and with the open plan after blowing out that wall, it is going to be a nice central feature in the house.   The outside also got a bit of a facelift with the pool resurfacing, coping and pavers almost being complete.  And our 70s porn star palm trees have now come into the 21st Century with a more manicured look.  The top deck is being painted and is almost complete.

Week 1 - Let the renovation games begin! 3 August 2023

 After looking at the original pictures of this house, I don't really understand how we decided to make this purchase.  But with a visionary project manager (Nicci) spending a couple weeks putting together the drawings, we both were getting excited as the final product started to come to life.  So now it is time to start breaking shit...everything must go!  Carpets, floors, toilets, bathtubs, showers, entire kitchen, walls, and much more.  Nothing like seeing a huge chunk of money leaving you bank account and then you start smashing what you just purchased.  So, have a look at the start of the project....
